It’s amazing how technology providers merely install systems, throw in a user manual, then leave after getting paid. At the end of the day, your system becomes a white elephant. It’s there, but barely used.
If you look at large companies or multinational companies, they invest millions of dollars in technology, for the sole purpose of expanding their business. The use technology like SAP, Microsoft, Oracle, and all the big names you’ve probably heard of.
Without doubt, these technologies and systems do help their business grow. That’s probably why they are where they are today. Because they have a systematic approach to doing business. They have tools to analyse what they’re doing right, and where they’re doing wrong. They have systems to tell them who their customers are, and why some of their customers left them. They are able to take a step back and look how the overall business is doing - whether its doing OK, doing real bad, or doing great.
Small to medium companies have every right to embrace these kind of technologies too. They must also have systematic ways to see how their business is progressing. Unfortunately, most small to medium companies cannot afford solutions from big shots like SAP or Microsoft or Oracle. Employing technical staff to support these systems alone can cost close to tens of thousands per person.
We’re not saying these technology providers aren’t good. They are top notch, and that’s why they are where they are today. But you get what you pay for.
